Day 242

Emily - "I whip my hair back and forth!"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymKLymvwD2U

Nuff said.

Jeanine - "Stripes"

Em and I went out for dinner tonight at East Side Marios...one of her favourite places.  I ordered the four cheese ravioli and fell in love with the stripes.  You can't see it very well in this shot cuz it is covered with cheese, but there is one with red stripes under the two green-striped ravioli in the middle of the plate (I ate the red ones first...but missed one).  They looked so good I had to take a photo.  They tasted great too!  YUM YUM!

Day 241

Emily - This afternoon this fire truck stopped in front of our house and a fireman came to our door, it was a little freaky but they were just checking to see if we had smoke and carbon monoxide alarms lol.

Jeanine - "Camera Pendant"

When Em and I went back to school shopping recently she spotted this camera necklace for $1.50 - what a deal!  So we both got one.  Cute eh?

Do I really have that many freckles???

Day 240

Emily - When I first got my camera I took a picture of this book shelf and I looked back at it and realized that when I didn't know anything about my camera I took a really bad picture of this book shelf, so here's the one that knows what's it doing.

Jeanine - "Corn Field"

The corn is high and it is everywhere.  We spend a lot of time driving through the countryside from May through October, and we enjoy watching the fields change through the seasons  What a beautiful neck of the woods we live in.

Day 239

Emily - My favourite logo! I loovvvee Kiwi Kraze, its a new self serve frozen yogurt place in London and its soooo good and soooo cool.

Jeanine - "Wiarton"

Saturday we took the boat from Owen Sound to Wiarton.  It was a beautiful sunny day and the water was calm.  However, overnight things changed.  The winds came up and so did the waves and the noises of the dock.  What a night!  We didn't get much sleep.  There was a small craft warning this morning so we left the boat and took a cab back to our car in Owen Sound and headed home.  This is a shot of the Niagara Escarpment taken from the dock.  At this spot the Bruce Trail runs directly below these rocks and along the water.  Beautiful!

Day 238

Emily - Today (incase you didn't see it on the news) everyone who was a part of footloose went down richmond with signs and crazy 80's costumes trying to promote our show, a lot of media was there and it was really fun!

Jeanine - "Field of Sunflowers"

On our way to the trailer Friday night we passed a huge field of sunflowers.  The weird thing is they were all facing away from the sun.  I thought it might be because it was almost 8 pm, but this afternoon on our way home around 2 p.m.  they were still facing this way.  Anyone know why???

We made it to Southampton just in time for the sunset which sadly is happening earlier and earlier at this time of year.  Got some gorgeous shots of that too!

Day 237

Emily- This picture totally reminds me of Elvis, hahaha. This is the guy who plays Ren in footloose. (His name is Gonzalo love it!) He comes to a small town that doesn't allow dancing (which is one of his favourite things) and this is him dancing before he knows the law.

Jeanine - "In the Bag"

The prompt this week for my Picture Inspiration class is called "In the Bag" and it invites us to photograph the purses and bags we have and use in our lives.  Believe it or not, the record shaped thing on top of the record player in this shot is a purse.  It is made out of recycled records, and is the funkiest purse I own.  Found it in Montreal a couple of years ago.  I'm gonna love this prompt...I have enough bags to post a different every day for a month!  But I promise I won't.

Day 236

Emily - More sparkles today. They were making decorations for the prom scene today and that requires a LOT of glitter.

Jeanine - "Change Is Good"

Got my hair cut today.  This was the first snip... 5 inches.  I love change...changing my hair style, redecorating and always having a new project to work towards.  Change is good!

And I love my hairstylist - Paula - at Innovations in Hair on Richmond Street.   She cuts Em's hair too - but today Em would only allow a trim.  Em's not as into change as I am.

Day 235

Emily - K, I know its not a real picture but I really like  this one. There were these sparkly balloons in the prop shop and i used manual focus and instead of focusing it I made it look like little lights.

Jeanine - "Summer's Simple Pleasures"

The simple pleasures of summer -- evening's on the deck...burgers, corn on the cob and potato salad.  Life is good.

Monday, August 22, 2011

Day 234

Emily - Sparks everywhere, so in the prop shop today there was a boy cutting metal and there were sparks flying all over the room, I'm surprised that nothing caught on fire.

Jeanine - "Footloose"

Tonight was parent preview night for the High School Project at the Grand Theatre.  We were treated to demonstrations from the students in the props, wardrobe, scenic art, and stage management departments as well as the cast.  Emily started the evening off with a 20-slide power point presentation of some of the photographs she has taken so far.  She got rave reviews.  I am incredibly proud of her.  My heart was bursting as I watched her speaking in front of a large audience in the McManus theatre.  I'm so proud of her.

Day 233

Emily - Today we went shopping in Vaughn Mills, the theme of this really cool mall is Ontario, so each of the different sections of the mall is supposed to represent a different part of Ontario. In the lake/water section there is this large lighthouse that has the names of islands and places that have popular light houses in Ontario. And of course our little light house near our trailer made it on the list.

Jeanine - "Old-Tyme London"

Em and I went back-to-school shopping at Vaughan Mills today.  In the food court we noticed there were historical pictures hanging over head representing places all across the province.  It took us awhile, but we found London's ...here is Victoria Park back in the day.

Saturday, August 20, 2011

Day 232

Emily - Today I was playing in the rain with Nikka. We went outside because Nikka wanted to show me this cool dive she can do in the pool and the second we walked out side it started pouring!

Jeanine - "Cutting It Close"

Earlier this week I didn't have a shot until very late at night (see sunglasses shot on Day 227).  A friend (she knows who she is) suggested I take a shot at the last minute...literally.  That tip came in handy tonight.  Here it is...with one minute left in the day.  I can't believe we've been able to keep this up...not every day is easy.  Photo idea suggestions are always welcome.

Day 231

Emily - It's kind of funny that I've been there almost a month and I didn't really notice the largeness of the shelves of fabrics in the wardrobe room. The wall is just covered and this is only a tidbit.

Jeanine - "Simply Stated"

I was making cards this morning to hide in Ian's luggage (he' s off to his son's graduation in San Francisco) when I looked down and saw this vignette.  A simple but true sentiment.

Day 230

Emily - For one of the best numbers in the show "I Need A Hero" they have these really sparkly microphones, the prop shop finished the today and this is them drying.
Jeanine - "Gratitude"

I drive by a cemetery on my way to and from work everyday, and have been drawn to this angel marking a grave for a long time.  Yesterday I stopped to take some shots of her.  This morning I played with the processing adding texture and this quote by English writer Doris Lessing from a book of quotes I love called Women Know Everything!  "A simple grateful thought turned heavenward is the most perfect prayer."

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

Day 229

Emily - Took more headshots today including my own, I set up this photo so it counts that I took it even though my finger wasn't the one that clicked the button.   My friends were taking it and they were making me laugh.

Jeanine - "Old City Hall"

After a court appearance in Woodstock this morning, I headed to Toronto for a meeting this afternoon (and yes, a little shoe shopping!). When I arrived Nathan Phillips Square was packed with people enjoying their lunch hour.  By 6 p.m. the sun's golden rays found only a few tourists still enjoying the space.  I took a few pictures for couples touring from France.  In this shot you see Old City Hall which is now a courthouse -- the one you always see inside when they shoot Canadian law shows.  The fountains, of course, are replaced by an ice skating rink in the winter.  I love living so close to a big city...so much to do all year round.

Day 228

Emily - "My studio"

This is the studio I set up and took my head shots in.   The two umbrellas are flashes,  the stool is where the the people sat when I took their picture and the table is to help reflect light.

Jeanine - "Law School"

For the last few summers Crown Attorneys (prosecutors) from across the province have converged on the law school at UWO for continuing education they call "Crown School."  I have been invited to speak to them on the topic of cross examination for the last 3 years.  I did that this morning.  I had a wonderful lunch with a friend who has just recently been accepted to this law school in September.  I have another friend who will start law school at Queens this fall.  I remember my years at UBC law school fondly.  How they changed my life!

Day 227

Emily - I tried to do artsier shots today because I need some for my display at the end of the process. I really like DOF (depth of field) in photos so I really like this one of the hanging paint brushes.

Jeanine - "Summer Days Drifting Away"

I can't believe it is August 15th already.  The summer is flying by.  I've been lucky enough to take a lot of time off this summer, but I'm not ready for it to end.  At 11:30 tonight I still didn't have a photo...some days are tough...but I remembered this texture I downloaded from Kim Klassen's website...it has the lyrics to the song Summer Nights from Grease...so I overlayed it onto the photograph of my sunglasses I took at approximately 11:37.   Whew!

Sunday, August 14, 2011

Day 226

Emily - I love taking care of this lil' pup! She's so cute, why do puppies have to grow up?

Jeanine - "Beautiful Women Project"

Today I spent 90 minutes of this grey day strolling through the Southampton Art Gallery being inspired by the Beautiful Women Project  (this archway leads to the gallery)

http://www.cawebster.com/art/bwp/

When Artist Cheryl-Ann Webster's 13 year old daughter expressed dislike for her developing body, Cheryl-Ann wanted to create a positive visual role model for her and others.  The result is 120 life-size clay sculptures of real women aged 19-91.  She made a plaster cast of each woman, listened while they talked about their lives, and then added her mixed media skills to each.  Each sculpture has a name representing the essence of the woman and a short story outlining the  details of her life.  It was touching and inspiring.

Day 225

Jeanine - "Dog Days of Summer"

Something about these boys riding their bikes to the end of the pier for a swim reminded me of the feeling I had every summer as a kid...that "summer lasts forever feeling"...the days were long and we were free to do as we pleased (at least it seemed that way) as long as we were home for dinner and after dinner we were free again until it started to get dark.  At least that's how I remember it.  I'm sure my mother would have a different story to tell.

We stayed overnight on the boat for the first time this weekend and Saturday afternoon we spotted these guys as we motored by.  They spotted me too and began to ham it up...waving and laughing...and probably talking about the crazy lady taking their photo.

Emily - It was a really dark and rainy day today. Unfortunately, the sky didn't make this colour itself but I like many of moms photos that are edited quite a bit :p

Day 224

Emily - Today I went to the Grand Theatre to set up my headshot studio. I set it up in the Mcmanus Theatre which is a smaller theatre that'ss in the basement of the Grand. It's a cute little theatre with almost 200 hundred seats that are all removable.

Jeanine - "Cone Flower"

One of our trailer neighbours has a glorious garden.  I took some time Friday morning to photograph it.  Hard to see it here but there is a spider web hanging from the flower.

Tip - just click on the photo to see a larger version.

Day 223

Emily - This prop is paper mache balloons for the prom scene. They look kinda funny and lumpy right now but the end product looks really good!

Jeanine - "Full Moon"

We got away late Thursday night for a long weekend at the trailer, but we had a full moon to guide the way.  I shot this from the car as we drove...the blurry black lines are trees we are passing by at 90 km per hour.  It was a gorgeous moon all weekend.

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Day 222

Emily - As I was taking care of the dog I was looking for something to photograph, I took a picture of the really pretty and cool bookcase that Erin has in her family room.

Jeanine - "All Knotted Up"

Ian put together this cleat so we could practice our knot making to be ready to tie the boat up to the dock.  He's so handy!!

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

Day 221

Emily - For each show the theatre gets sponsors, for this show we've been making cards and signing posters to give to them as thank you's. I love the poster (even though the guy playing Ren doesn't look anything like him. Haha

Jeanine - "Random Paint"

It is amazing how photography has opened my eyes to the world around me.  I know I have said that before ...but it is so true.  This morning, as I walked from my office to court, I spied these seemingly random paint blotches on the curb.  I'm sure I never would have noticed them before I embarked on this crazy project.

Monday, August 8, 2011

Day 220

Emily - Got a puppy today!!! Well I didn't exactly but my Dads girlfriend and her kids did and we're basically family... so ya. Here she is, shammy (short for shamrock). She didn't quite like the car ride home but she loved the backyard!

Jeanine - "Sunflowers"

On the way to St. Thomas court today, I found this patch of sunflowers next to a roadside stand that sold flowers, veggies, fruit and farm fresh eggs.  I couldn't resist their sunny appearance so I stopped for a few shots.  Don't ya just love the fresh produce and flowers available at this time of year?  Next time...glads!

Sunday, August 7, 2011

Day 219

Emily - My beautiful heart necklace! My grandma Gail gave it to me after my uncle died, she has a very similar one. Oh I love tiffanys!

Jeanine - "Dinner and Drinks with Good Friends"

Most of the women in our book club were able to meet for dinner and drinks tonight at Cello Supper Club.  It was so good to get together and get caught up about family, vacations and summer reads.  They are a wonderful, funny, eclectic mix of women who bring joy to my life.  The absentees were missed.

There was an extensive martini menu that was heartily sampled.  Many had candy in the martini.  This was Tammy's selection "The Marilyn".

Much time was also spent laughing about the concert going on across the street at the JLC - New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys.  We needed to be wearing T-shirts that said "We did NOT go to the concert tonight" - ha!

Saturday, August 6, 2011

Day 218

Emily - Today I went to my friend Jesslyn's sixteenth birthday party. It was a pool party (and no not this kind of pool). We did however also play this pool.

Jeanine - "Saturday Morning"

I love slow starting Saturday Mornings...enjoying coffee and newspapers on the deck...pushing back the mulching and gardening planned for later.
